Hi everybody, Evan from PureButtons.com here with a brief overview of rich black values in the CMYK printing process. A lot of the time when setting up black in Adobe Illustrator or or Photoshop, designers will set it to what is called "100k Black". This is equated as 0s in all of the colors except for black 100%. You can also just grab the darkest color out of the color picker and you get something like this: 75/68/67/90. But what we like is something called "Rich Black" and this is a value that we have created based on tests with our printers to produce the darkest, most natural-looking black value. This is 60% Cyan, 40% Magenta and Yellow, and 100% Black. This produces a rich black color that is not milky or too heavy. Finally, we have what's called "Registration Black" which is seen as 100 all the way across the board. NEVER USE REGISTRATION BLACK. What this does is it puts too much ink or pigment on the page, it can create printing abnormalities, with liquid based inks there can...

When your run out of black ink you may still be able to print using color ink. InkJet printers will sometimes allow you to make a print in blue, magenta, or whatever colors are available.
If you are trying to a black ink cartridge in a color cartridge slot, your printer will not function and you could potentially cause damage to the machine. Some photo inkjet printers require two black ink cartridges to print text and more defined shades of black in your photos.
In the print world, black can be printed as flat black (just black ink), rich black (using a mixture of CMYK) or registration black (100% each of CMYK). While all three are options in design software, registration black should never be used in design as it makes the ink coverage too heavy and causes drying problems.
Go to your computer and click “Print” from the file that you wanted to print. Click on “Properties” and then the “Color” tab next. Select the “Print in grayscale” option by clicking on its checkbox. You can now start printing in black and white.
1-5 of 5 Answers. Yes, display on printer will show low or no color ink in cartridge but as long as their is ink in your black ink cartridge you will be okay.
Open Printer utility, right click on your printer and select properties, select printer options in the left pane, scroll down printer features common in the right pane and select color option in the ink set and select apply. Hope it helps. Save this answer.
The problem with using a built black instead of 100% black for text, is that any color out of registration will show in text. In the printing process, the press layers ink on top of other inks. There is always a chance that the paper can move during the printing process, or a plate is hung improperly.
If you the wrong ink cartridge in your printer, you will likely receive an error message on your printer display that prevents you from using the printer. Printers are smart and most will be able to tell right away if the wrong cartridge is installed.
