Knockout is a term used in printing when parts of an image with different colors are printed together and they overlap. The top overlapping colored part is printed and the lower colored part of the image is knocked out or is not printed. This is done so that the color of the image remains same and unaffected.
Full color printing is when a colorful image, like a logo or photo, is printed onto some kind of surface. You'll see it used for magazines, stickers, greeting cards, billboards, mugs, bags, and so much more.
CMYK Mode for Design If you haven't guessed, the 4-color process involves combining the four (printing) basic colors – cyan, magenta, yellow and black – to create the spectrum of color tones and hues available.
Both RGB and CMYK are modes for mixing color in graphic design. As a quick reference, the RGB color mode is best for digital work, while CMYK is used for print products.
Black can be achieved in 2 different ways. Regular black has CMYK values of: C = 0, M = 0, Y = 0, K = 100. Rich black uses CMYK values of: C = 60, M = 60, Y = 60, K = 100.
100% Black (K) is mainly used for black text. Technically this standard black is set in InDesign (and other programs) to overprint backgrounds to avoid ink misregistration when the document is printed.
As the name implies, four color printing utilizes four colors – Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black – that are applied in different concentrations on the paper.
In process color printing, the order in which the colors are printed. In offset lithography, for example, the common printing sequence is black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. Also called color sequence and laydown sequence.
The "four-color" in "four-color printing" refers to the four ink colors—cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (CMYK)—used in offset printing presses and many digital presses. These four colors are combined to make a wide range of colors.
In theory, mixing Cyan, Magenta and Yellow inks should yield a Blackcolour as a result but in practice, we get an unsatisfactorily muddy dark colour due to the nature of the pigments used and hence Black was introduced as a fourth colour in 4 colour process printing to achieve better detail and contrast.
