Blending modes let me stack different things to create stunning visual effects. But theres one really interesting way to use black and white colors with blending modes to basically cut anything right out of a Div. It goes like this. Background? Check. Something in the foreground? Check. Since the foreground background Stick with me, Ill find a better way to say it. Since this white background is pure white, and the stuff inside of it is pure black? I can just select this white Div and set its blending mode to lighten. And boom. Every instance of the color black is transparent. Also, notice how I very cleverly set the background video to something that has great contrast, so people can, you know, read it. So if I go into preview mode, I can see the background video through my content. Also, by the way, what if I have a design with a black foreground background? [Miguel] Background foreground. [Grimur] Foreground background? [Miguel] Background foreground. [Grimur] F

How to Blackout Poetry Find a newspaper article, and old book or a magazine that you feel comfortable destroying. Skim the passage and keep your eye out for that eye-catching word that will guide the theme of your poem. Read the poem in its entirety. Make your final decisions and black out the rest of the poem!
Blackout poetry, also known as erasure or redacted poetry, are all types of found poetry. Specifically, found poetry has a goal of using pre-existing or found text to create something new. Portions of the original text are kept, while other parts are drawn over or crossed out.
Blackout poems can be created using the pages of old books or even articles cut from yesterdays newspaper. Using the pages of an existing text, blackout poets isolate then piece together single words or short phrases from these texts to create lyrical masterpieces.
Grab a blank piece of paper and write them down in order, then read through them. Cross out the words you dont want. If you need a few connecting words (like a, the, it, etc.) then dive back in and see if you can find them between the words you want to connect.
Blackout poetry is a process of narrowing down the words you dont want, then selecting and arranging the words that are left. As such, the first thing you should do with your marker is draw boxes around the words you want to keep. Of course, you can box a word in the beginning and cross it out later.
Blackout poetry does not have to rhyme another plus that students find liberating. The great thing is that your students will be looking at language, word choice, imagery, mood, figurative language, and theme as they create their own poems!
