Since binary is in base 2, each additional binary digit (bit) will multiply the range of numbers by 2. What do you think the range would be for an 8 bit number? The maximum value that could be represented by an 8 bit number is 255, so the range would be 0255 (256 values).
To convert hexadecimal to binary, we can simply convert each hexadecimal digit into its corresponding 4-bit binary value. The hexadecimal digits range from 0 to F, where F is equivalent to decimal 15. D is equivalent to decimal 13, which in binary is 1101. A is equivalent to decimal 10, which in binary is 1010.
If the result of the addition is greater than 255, an overflow error will occur as we do not have room to store the ninth bit. When this happens, the CPU drops the overflow digit because the computer cannot store it anywhere, and the computer thinks 255 + 1 = 0.
In binary, its all 1s and 0s. So, the step before 256 is all 1s. Therefore, 255 in binary is 11111111.
What does 10101 mean in binary? In binary, 10101 converts to 21 in decimal. This can be written in expanded notation as the following equation: 1 x 2^4 + 0 x 2^3 + 1 x 2^2 + 0 x 2^1 + 1 x 2^0 = 16 + 0 + 4 + 0 + 1 = 21.
255 (two hundred [and] fifty-five) is the natural number following 254 and preceding 256.
Numerically, the two values are often 0 for black, and either 1 or 255 for white. Binary images are often produced by thresholding a grayscale or color image, in order to separate an object in the image from the background.
