A font license is simply an agreement that gives you permission to use a font, subject to the terms of that agreement (also called an End User License Agreement or EULA).

Yes. You can use the fonts for any kind of merchandise, whether youre designing a t-shirt for a friend or product packaging for a client. Other printed products, such as books or magazines, are permitted as well.
The minimum you need to change something to avoid copyright issues is 100%. If any of your content is copied without permission from somewhere that is subject to copyright then you have stolen that content.
If youre using the font in software that its bundled with, I.E Microsoft Word, then youre allowed to use it on any commercial project. If youre using it in software it isnt bundled with. I.E Affinity or Canva, then its a more legal grey area.
The best way to do this is to search for the name of the font plus the word license or commercial license. For example: Times New Roman commercial license. The only downside to this method is that it can lead to some sketchy websites that dont have the correct information.
