hi YouTube its John Andy here in this video Im gonna be talking about the w-2 form the tax season makes things really really really stressful for a lot of people out there because theres a lot of different tax forms and things get complicated and confusing but thank goodness the w2 is actually one of the more basic and most common forms out there now the w-2 form is only gonna be given to people who are an employee of a company or have an employer that they work at so if you go to a typical job Monday to Friday or whatever your schedule is and you have a salary or wages that you earn throughout the year if its more than $600 then your employer has to legally send a w-2 form to the IRS so whats on the w-2 form why is this so important this can kind of get complicated so Im not gonna go to every single box because were just gonna cover the basics here on top you can see your social security number the employers name and address your name and your address the tax year for this form

Paper filers, select Print onto Pre-Printed IRS Form to create your mailable red ink W-2 forms. eFilers, select Print onto a Blank Sheet to create electronic or hard copies for your records. To ensure IRS compliance, these printouts are watermarked and not suitable for filing to the IRS or SSA.
To create a corrected W-2 after filing, use Form W-2c, Corrected Wage and Tax Statement. Employers use Form W-2c to correct errors on Forms W-2 filed with the Social Security Administration. Sometimes, you might send Form W-2c to your employee but not the SSA (explained below).
The form numbers (W-2 and W-3) must be in 18-point Arial font or a close approximation. The tax year (for example, 2015) on Forms W-2 (Copy A) and W-3 must be in 20-point Arial font or a close approximation.
Type all entries using black ink and, if possible, in a 12-point Courier font. Entries are read by machine. Handwritten, script, or italicized fonts are discouraged. Entries made in other than black ink cant be read.
If you make a mistake on Form W-2, you can send a corrected return. You will use Form W-2c to make a Form W-2 correction. Check the instructions to find out what corrections you can make with the form.
The employee copy of the W-2 doesnt need to be printed with special paper or ink like the IRS version. From there, put each form in its own envelope and distribute it to each employee. Use privacy envelopes to protect sensitive data from prying eyes. Make sure all your employees know when Forms W-2 are ready.
If you make a Form W-2 reprint, write REISSUED STATEMENT on the new copy. Then, give the copy to the employee. You would typically send Copy A of Form W-2 to the Social Security Administration (SSA). Do not send Copy A of the reissued form to the SSA.
The IRS will send your employer a letter requesting that they provide you with a corrected Form W-2 within ten days. The letter advises your employer of their responsibilities to provide a corrected Form W-2 and of the penalties for their failure to do so.
