Classic serif fonts such as Baskerville, Caslon, and Garamond keep your certificates looking traditional but readable. For a more modern-style certificate, consider some of the classic sans serif fonts such as Avant Garde, Futura, and Optima.
If you are choosing a classic Gothic-style memorial, then you will need a complimentary font such as Times New Roman or Old English. For a more modern style of memorial, a simple san serif font would look more attractive.
Font Type the fonts that most people use for plaques and signs are Cheltenham, Helvetica, Century Schoolbook and Times New Roman (see examples below).
Serif fonts are often associated with traditional and formal documents, making them a popular choice for certificates. Garamond: Its classic and timeless look is perfect for a sophisticated certificate. Times New Roman: A traditional choice that conveys formality and respect.
Font Size: Minimum castable letter height is 1/4 ALL CAPS or 3/8 Caps with Lower Case. Line stroke in letters and artwork can be no smaller than 1/16 or 4 pts thick.
Sans Serif fonts like Arial and Helvetica do not have ending lines or shapes and appear more contemporary and streamlined. To find some inspiration and guidance for font selections (if you dont have prescribed brand fonts), run a quick web search for font pairings to get started.
Font Recommendations - Times New Roman: This tried-and-true font has been the default in Microsoft Word for years. Thats because its easy to read and its set width (the width of the letters) doesnt take up too much space. Century Schoolbook: This is a curvier, lighter Times New Roman.
