If you have had a complete blackout, you will likely not be able to remember anything from the experience. With a fragmentary blackout, you may have some recollection of events, and you may be able to recall certain memories with cueing (meaning verbal or visual reminders of the events).

A blackout is not the same as passing out, which means either falling asleep or losing consciousness from drinking too much. During a blackout, a person is still awake but their brain is not creating new memories.
If you have a blackout, you lose consciousness temporarily. Before that, you may: fall down. have blurred vision.

Blackouts tend to begin at blood alcohol concentrations (BACs) of about 0.16 percent (nearly twice the legal driving limit) and higher. At these BACs, most cognitive abilities (e.g., impulse control, attention, judgment, and decision-making) are docHubly impaired.
Most unexplained blackouts are caused by syncope Many people, including doctors, assume that blackouts are due to epileptic seizures, but much more commonly they are due to syncope (pronounced sin-co-pee) a type of blackout which is caused by a problem in the regulation of blood pressure or sometimes with the heart.
One typically blacks out when their BAC level, or blood alcohol content, docHubes 0.15%. That is nearly twice the legal limit for driving in most states. Your BAC level depends on a variety of factors, including: Your weight.
0.35 BAC and above: At this high level, there is a much greater risk of lapsing into a coma. The effects of alcohol could be so severe that they produce the same effects as anesthesia. A BAC level higher than 0.35 may be fatal.
