ITamp;#39;S SAINT PATRICKamp;#39;S WEEKEND!!!!!! A time to celebrate the work of Saint Patrick who converted the Irish from Paganism to Catholicism. In America, this means getting medievally blackout ffffffffffwasted! Huh? Howdy Irish and Irish-wannabes, Trace here for DNews with some drunk science. Now thereamp;#39;s drunk, and then thereamp;#39;s BLACKOUT drunk. Those are the times when youamp;#39;re so bombed you literally have no memory of anything you did or said. A whole chunk of time is just lost. Count yourself lucky if this has never happened to you. But why does this happen at all? First letamp;#39;s talk about how memories are made. Scientists arenamp;#39;t EXACTLY sure, but they THINK it has to do with the hippocampus. On a normal day, the synapses of your brain communicate with each other to build your experiences. Itamp;#39;s a chemical process pulling in information from your senses, experiences and feelings at the time all folded into the cells of your grey matt

Syncope (SINK-a-pee) is another word for fainting or passing out. Someone is considered to have syncope if they become unconscious and go limp, then soon recover. For most people, syncope occurs once in a great while, if ever, and is not a sign of serious illness.
There are various causes of TLoC, the most common of which is a reduced supply of blood to the brain due to uncomplicated factors such as sudden exposure to an unpleasant sight or experience, standing for a long time, a sudden episode of stress, emotional upset, fear or anxiety, or if they have spent a long time in a
Blacking out is a loss of memory - not being able to remember what happened because your brain has lost the ability to form new memories due to intoxication. Passing out is losing consciousness and not being able to be awakened.
Some people use the terms blackout and fainting interchangeably, but they are different things. A blackout is a loss of memory. Fainting, also called passing out, is a loss of consciousness.
Blackouts tend to begin at blood alcohol concentrations (BACs) of about 0.16 percent (nearly twice the legal driving limit) and higher. At these BACs, most cognitive abilities (e.g., impulse control, attention, judgment, and decision-making) are docHubly impaired.
The technical term for the type of memory loss that people typically experience during a blackout is known as anterograde amnesia.
A blackout means not being able to remember what happened when you were drinking or using drugs. Blackouts are not the same as passing out. Passing out occurs when you lose consciousness. You dont pass out when you have a drug or alcohol blackout.
Presyncope occurs when a person feels like they are about to faint but do not actually lose consciousness. Someone with presyncope may experience lightheadedness, weakness, excessive sweating, and heart palpitations. There are many potential causes of presyncope.
BAC 0.15% to 0.30%: In this percentage range, you may experience confusion, vomiting and drowsiness. BAC 0.30% to 0.40%: In this percentage range, youll likely have alcohol poisoning, a potentially life-threatening condition, and experience loss of consciousness.
0.35 BAC and above: At this high level, there is a much greater risk of lapsing into a coma. The effects of alcohol could be so severe that they produce the same effects as anesthesia. A BAC level higher than 0.35 may be fatal.
