When looking into how to darken laser engraving on metal, using a coated material or applying an anodized marking spray will also help to achieve engraving that is deep and dark enough.
Re: darkening engraved letters Id try clear coating the letters and adjacent areas, then fill the letters in with black paint and then sand the board back down to bare wood. The clear coat will be a barrier between the black paint and the wood and prevent the black paint from staining the wood.
Apply Darkening Agent: Once the engraving is complete, apply a darkening agent or ink to the engraved area. Brush or rub the agent into the engraved lines or markings, ensuring it fills all the grooves. Clean Excess Darkening Agent: Wipe off any excess darkening agent from the surface using a clean cloth or tissue.
