hi its michael from first aid oz and today were looking at duty of care and incident reporting so very important when it comes to first aid that people understand what their legal responsibilities are particularly if youre doing first aid as part of your employment or as part of your subcontracted work that you might be involved in as a self-employed person so effectively duty of care means that you have a legal responsibility for other people so when youre in that situation okay that means youre also responsible not only for providing the service for which youre getting paid for but ensuring that the persons health and safety are taken into account from a first aid point of view of course that means that if something was to go wrong where a person is injured or something that requires some medical attention then youre primarily responsible for ensuring that the attention is given now it may be a case where youre having to administer some first aid yourself or youre needing t

A power outage may do the following: Disrupt communications, water, and transportation. Close retail businesses, grocery stores, gas stations, ATMs, banks, and other services. Cause food spoilage and water contamination.
Blackouts can last anywhere from a few minutes to a few days, or even weeks. A brownout is only a partial loss of power, where a systems capacity and voltage are reduced. Brownouts usually happen when theres high demand across the power grid.
A blackout is the total loss of power to a wider area and of long duration. It is the most severe form of power outage that can occur. Blackouts which result from or result in power stations tripping are particularly difficult to recover from quickly.
Telephone networks generally remained operational, but the increased demand triggered by the blackout left many circuits overloaded. Water systems in several cities lost pressure, forcing boil-water advisories to be put into effect.
The outage, which was much more widespread than the Northeast blackout of 1965, affected an estimated 55 million people, including 10 million people in southern and central Ontario and 45 million people in eight U.S. states.
Eight U.S. states were impacted including Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Vermont. And in Canada, cities in Ontario were without power, including Toronto and Ottawa.
It was an outage that affected nearly 55 million people, including 10 million in Ontario, for hours, days or even a week in some cases. It caused the loss of nearly 19 million hours of work in Ontario alone, a $2.3-billion drop in manufacturing deliveries, and a 0.7% decline in Canadian GDP in single month.
The 2003 blackout has added to the growing base of knowledge. The findings of the New York area and Great Lakes region case studies offer lessons learned in six areas: planning and preparation, operating decisions, agency coordination, the role of advanced technology, technical communications, and system redundancy.
