Got questions?

Below are some common questions from our customers that may provide you with the answer you're looking for. If you can't find an answer to your question, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

The most common method is to use a tendon from elsewhere in your body to replace the ACL. You'll either have a general anaesthetic, which means you'll be totally unconscious during the procedure, or a spinal anaesthetic, where anaesthetic is injected into your spine so you're conscious but unable to feel pain.
Jumping, quick changes of direction, sprinting, or twisting all put increased stress on the ACL. If the feet and lower leg are planted and the upper body is twisted or has sufficient momentum, the force can “pry” the bones apart and rip the ACL.
General anesthesia is typically used during ACL reconstruction, so you'll be unconscious during the procedure. ACL reconstruction is usually done through small incisions — one to hold a thin, tube-like video camera and others to allow surgical instruments access to the joint space.
You will feel bone pain since this surgery involves some drilling into bone and you will feel the general pain and fullness due to swelling in your knee. You may also have pain in your throat as most people who undergo a general anesthetic have a tube put into their throat.
A dislocated kneecap is a common injury that normally takes about 6 weeks to heal. It's often caused by a blow or a sudden change in direction when the leg is planted on the ground, such as during sports or dancing. The kneecap (patella) normally sits over the front of the knee.
With an ACL tear you will feel severe pain, rapid swelling, frequent popping noises in your knee, and a loss of range of motion. ACL Sprains – This occurs when excessive force or a sudden movement causes the ligament to rupture. ACL sprains are painful and graded on their severity with grades of 1–3.
This usually happens when you take a blow to your knee or if you accidentally knock your knee into something. In a rupture, the fibers of a ligament are torn partially or completely. In severe ruptures, the ligament can completely tear from the knee. You might hear or feel a popping or snapping if this happens.
Can you walk with a torn ACL? The short answer is yes. After the pain and swelling subsides and if there is no other injury to your knee, you may be able to walk in straight lines, go up and down stairs and even potentially jog in a straight line.
ACL Rehab Exercises to Avoid Excessive weight-bearing before your body is ready. Early in the recovery process, perhaps even immediately after surgery, a doctor or physical therapist may instruct you to put some weight on the injured leg. ... Walking without support too early. ... Full-range open-chain knee extension.
Squatting with excessive forward movement of the knees beyond the toes and with the heels off the ground tends to increase ACL loading. Squatting and lunging with a forward trunk tilt tend to decrease ACL loading, likely due to increased hamstrings activity.
