Open the PDF in Acrobat, and then do one of the following: Choose Tools Redact. On the Edit menu, choose Redact Text Images. Select the text or image in a PDF, right-click, and select Redact. Select the text or image in a PDF, and choose Redact in the floating context-menu.
Simply type [REDACTED] or the word XX in the Find What control after the content you want to remove.
Common examples of redacted text might include names, contact details, and other personal information.
In your original Word document, replace all the text you wish redacted with the word [REDACTED], and/or do a FIND AND REPLACE of all the text you wish redacted. Example: Replace all instances of John Wilkes Booth with [NAME REDACTED], JWB or whatever you deem fit.
Cut out the text that needs to be redacted. Use scissors to cut out all the text you need to redact. Make sure you find every mention of the sensitive information in the paper document and cut it out. NOTE: You should then shred the paper clippings to ensure the cut-out information cannot be traced or found.
While an ellipsis is perhaps the most common way to show redacted text, it may at times be easier for the reader to understand your intention if you explicitly write what has been done, like [redacted], [censored], [cut] and similar.
Include the word redacted in square brackets in place of the name, word, or passage that has been redacted. For instance: In chapter 1 of Fair Game, Valerie Plame Wilson recounts, After nearly ten weeks of physical conditioning [redacted], we felt we could eat nails for breakfast (16).
Blacking Out Text Manually Click the drop-down arrow to the right of the ab highlighter icon in the Font section. Click the black box in the drop-down menu. Click the black line below the highlighter icon. Repeat this process of highlighting with black to cover text.
