This means that when you bind something such as financial difficulty, you have to rest in Christ while you do it. You have to be at peace and stay open to God for any guidance while youre trusting Him for taking care of your problem. No worry, no fear, no doubt!
It sometimes means to attach, to fasten (Exodus 28:28; Deuteronomy 14:25). It was used also with reference to an agreement in a judicial sense (Numbers 30:2,3), or to make one a prisoner (Judges 16:10; Psalms 149:8). It means also to control (Job 38:31).
18:18 expresses the conviction that God causes a person to repent (which does not deny there also being human causation).
Moreover, binding can be seen as a spiritual or religious practice. It may involve rituals, ceremonies, or prayers aimed at uniting individuals with higher powers or divine forces. This spiritual binding seeks to establish a connection, seek guidance, and find solace in something greater than ourselves.
Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. By earth Jesus is describing this mortal experience, and by heaven he is naming the innate spiritual Power that is our true identity.
No one can enter a strong mans house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. And then he will plunder his house.
In a legislative sense, the word bind means to forbid something and the word loose means to permit something (cf. Toussaint 1980:206). In a judicial sense, to bind means to punish and to loose means to release from punishment (Fruchtenbaum 2005:9).
In usage, to bind and to loose simply means to forbid by an indisputable authority and to permit by an indisputable authority. One example of this is Isaiah 58:56 which relates proper fasting to loosing the chains of injustice.
