Mac OSX. OSX usually has ping enabled by default. The most common reason why OSX may not respond to ping requests is because Stealth mode has been enabled in the Firewall settings.
Mac OS Click Applications Utilities Terminal. Type ping -c . The IP address is . . . , where is a number between 0 and 255. For example, to ping 192.168. 1.1 five times, you would type ping -c 5 192.168. 1.1.
In the Command Prompt window, type ping followed by the destination, either an IP Address or a Domain Name, and press Enter. The command will begin printing the results of the ping into the Command Prompt.
To initiate a ping test in Mac OS X: Open Terminal by navigating to /Applications/Utilities. In the Terminal window type ping , where is the hostname or IP address of the server that you want to ping. Press Enter. To stop the ping, after seeing enough results, press Ctrl + C.
