Secure each signature to the previous by looping the needle behind the previous signatures threads, then back through the current signatures sewing station. The remaining signatures are held in place by looping the needle behind the threads securing the previous two signatures together.
CASE BINDING Also known as hardcover binding, this is by far the best binding technique you could pick. In fact, in the past, all major books were hard-bound. Basically, the inside pages are sewn together in sections. The sections are then glued to the end-papers which are finally glued to the covers spine.
Also known as hardcover binding, case binding is the most durable option available. Most books in history have received this type of book binding. Typically, the pages are sewn together in sections. The sections are then glued to end papers.
The Assembly Method (also called the Single Fold Method) is probably the most well-known way to fold signatures. Using this technique, each piece of paper is folded individually and creased with a bone folder. Once all papers are folded, theyre nested together in stacks of 4-7. This stack is now called a signature.
Run the needle under the thread between the first and second signature (needle should be pointing towards the top of the book). Tighten gently and insert needle right into the top hole of the next signature. Rinse and repeat until youve sewn all the signatures.
First, fold your two signatures, A and B. Reverse the fold in B by turning it inside out. Then put signature A inside B. Open the book, punch holes and sew as if it was a one signature pamphlet.
Soft binding is a little similar to hard binding (see above) except the covers are not as thick and therefore not as rigid and the internal pages are thermally glued in. However the finished book is still usually able to stand unaided on a book shelf.
