The myelin basic protein (MBP) gene was initially described as coding for proteins that are major constituents of the myelin sheath of oligodendrocytes in the central nervous system (CNS) and Schwann cells in the peripheral nervous system (PNS).
Myelin basic protein (MBP), the second most abundant protein in central nervous system myelin, is responsible for adhesion of the cytosolic surfaces of multilayered compact myelin. A member of the 'intrinsically disordered' or conformationally adaptable protein family, it also appears to have several other functions.
Maltose binding proteins (MBPs) are ubiquitous periplasmic binding proteins that serve as the primary receptors for alpha-linked glucose based oligosaccharides. While many bacteria have only a single copy of a more promiscuous MBP, some organisms contain more than one MBP isoform.
Cross-linked amylose resin is used to bind MBP tagged proteins, and the bound fusion protein can be easily eluted by adding 10 mM maltose to the wash buffers.
Maltose-binding protein (MBP) is one of the most popular fusion partners being used for producing recombinant proteins in bacterial cells. MBP allows one to use a simple capture affinity step on amylose-agarose columns, resulting in a protein that is often 70-90% pure.
Mannose-binding lectin recognizes and attaches (binds) to sugars, such as mannose, fucose, and glucose, that are found on the surface of bacteria, viruses, and yeast.
Causes of MBL deficiency Genetic changes (known as mutations) in the MBL2 gene can lead to MBL deficiency. This gene provides instructions for making the MBL protein that plays an important role in the body's immune response.
Abstract. Maltose-binding protein (MBP) is one of the most popular fusion partners being used for producing recombinant proteins in bacterial cells. MBP allows one to use a simple capture affinity step on amylose-agarose columns, resulting in a protein that is often 70-90% pure.
Our results provide a comprehensive molecular framework for membrane binding and stacking by MBP, which is a peripheral membrane protein with unique molecular properties.
MBP alone is known to be a monomeric molecule, although some MBP fusions with other proteins have been shown to form dimers, tetramers, or larger forms due to their fused protein features [45][46] [47] .
