In Rust, we have a concept of Generic Traits where Generics are basically an abstraction of various properties, and Traits are basically used for combining generic types for constraining types for accepting particular behavior of various types.
Trait objects are written as the keyword dyn followed by a set of trait bounds, but with the following restrictions on the trait bounds. All traits except the first trait must be auto traits, there may not be more than one lifetime, and opt-out bounds (e.g. ? Sized ) are not allowed.
Traits and trait bounds let us write code that uses generic type parameters to reduce duplication but also specify to the compiler that we want the generic type to have particular behavior.
Traits can be qualitative (such as eye color) or quantitative (such as height or blood pressure). A given trait is part of an individuals overall phenotype.
Parents pass on traits or characteristics, such as eye colour and blood type, to their children through their genes. Some health conditions and diseases can be passed on genetically too.
For example, a supermarket may offer its own generic productsay a dairy product like sour creamnext to a name brand product to appeal to a cost-conscious customer. Or a pharmacy may offer consumers a generic alternative to Advils ibuprofen.
generic a. : relating to or characteristic of a whole group or class : general. Romantic comedy is the generic term for such films. b. : not being or having a particular brand name. generic drugs. c. : having no particularly distinctive quality or application. generic restaurants.
A trait is a language feature that tells the Rust compiler about functionality a type must provide.
