Queues maintain a strict order of processing based on the FIFO principle, while topics allow for non-sequential processing. Queues have a single receiver, ensuring that each message is consumed by one entity. Topics, however, enable one-to-many communication, docHubing multiple subscribers simultaneously.
RabbitMQ Topic vs Direct exchange DirectTopic A direct exchange delivers messages to queues based on the message routing key. Topic exchanges route messages to one or many queues based on matching between a message routing key and the pattern that was used to bind a queue to an exchange.5 more rows Jun 14, 2022
Scalability and distribution: Topics excel in scenarios where you need to scale horizontally and distribute messages across multiple subscribers. Queues, on the other hand, are effective when load balancing tasks or processing messages in a single consumer.
The Binding Key for Topic Exchanges is similar to a Routing Key, however there are two special characters, namely the asterisk * and hash # . These are wildcards, allowing us to create a binding in a smarter way. An asterisk * matches any single word and a hash # matches zero or more words.
RabbitMQ sends and queues messages in a specific order. Unless a higher priority message is queued into the system, consumers receive messages in the order they were sent. Meanwhile, Kafka uses topics and partitions to queue messages. When a producer sends a message, it goes into a specific topic and partition.
A direct exchange delivers messages to queues based on the message routing key. used to bind a queue to an exchange. When special characters * (star) and # (hash) arent used in bindings, the topic exchange will behave just like a direct one. You can bind multiple queues with the same binding key.
A queue allows processing of a message by a single consumer. In contrast to queues, topics and subscriptions provide a one-to-many form of communication in a publish and subscribe pattern. Its useful for scaling to large numbers of recipients.
A binding is a link that you set up to bind a queue to an exchange. The routing key is a message attribute. The exchange might look at this key when deciding how to route the message to queues (depending on exchange type).
