okay so in this video weamp;#39;re gonna focus on the neurotransmitters of your autonomic nervous system so the major neurotransmitters of the ANS are acetylcholine and norepinephrine now acetylcholine is used by both systems sympathetic and parasympathetic and itamp;#39;s released by we call cholinergic fibers which are basically all autonomic nervous system preganglionic axons both sympathetic and parasympathetic preganglionic axons release acetylcholine and all parasympathetic postganglionic axons release acetylcholine now what differs here then is that norepinephrine is released by adrenergic fibers which are almost all sympathetic postganglionic axons except for sweat gland post colonic axons those actually release acetylcholine on the muscarinic receptors now the effect of neurotransmitters depend on whether it binds to cholinergic receptors or adrenergic receptors and even then thereamp;#39;s subtypes that have different effects so we talked about how in the somatic versus th

Defined simply, autonomic tone can be conceptualized as a rheostat balancing the two ANS divisionsthe sympathetic and parasympathetic pathways.
What are substances that bind to receptors in the autonomic nervous system? The substances that bind to receptors in the autonomic nervous system include. Also, drugs such as beta-blockers, alpha-blockers, cholinergic agonists, and cholinergic antagonists can bind.
Nicotinic receptors are ionotropic ligand-gated receptors that are also responsive to Ach, but they are mostly in the central nervous system. [2] Muscarinic receptors are involved in peristalsis, micturition, bronchoconstriction, and several other parasympathetic reactions.
The neurotransmitters involved in the ANS are acetylcholine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine. Preganglionic neurons of the sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions and postganglionic neurons of the parasympathetic nervous system utilize acetylcholine (ACh).
ANS has two types of receptors: cholinergic and adrenergic. Acetylcholine activates the cholinergic receptors, while catecholamines such as epinephrine and norepinephrine activate the adrenergic receptors. Cholinergic receptors are divided into two categories: nicotinic receptors and muscarinic receptors.
Receptors are also classified as exteroceptive (reporting the external environment), interoceptive (sampling the environment of the body itself), and proprioceptive (sensing the posture and movements of the body). Exteroceptors report the senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch.
The two divisions of the autonomic nervous system are the sympathetic division (SNS) and the parasympathetic division (PNS). The SNS contains alpha and beta receptors, and the PNS contains nicotinic and muscarinic receptors. Each type of receptor has a specific action when stimulated.
The types of sympathetic or adrenergic receptors are alpha, beta-1 and beta-2. Alpha-receptors are located on the arteries. When the alpha receptor is stimulated by epinephrine or norepinephrine, the arteries constrict. This increases the blood pressure and the blood flow returning to the heart.
