hello this is dr jessica friedman from med edits medical admissions today im going to be talking about medical school update letters now as soon as medical school applicants receive a waitlist decision they immediately ask us should i be sending an update letter and the answer is well it depends if you have docHub updates for example if you have some recent grades a recent publication or some other very docHub accomplishment or achievement that the medical school admissions committee does not know about then you can send an update letter we generally encourage students to wait until they have several updates to send so they can put those into one letter the medical school admissions committees do want to understand what youve achieved since you submitted your application but they dont want to be bombarded with multiple letters however always follow medical schools instructions not every medical school will accept updates good luck

Bottom line: While letters of intent are not legally binding, you should in no way be tempted to do anything dishonest or unethical.
Our Cracking Med School Admissions team advises students to wait until a decision comes, and then to write a Letter of Intent. The one exception to this is if during your interview day, the admissions officers specifically say they encourage students to write continued interest and update letters.
A letter of interest must include: A thank you to the admissions committee for their consideration. A review of what you specifically like and appreciate about the program. Any relevant updates to your experience, academics, or extracurriculars.
You can send these to your top 5-20 program choices, but make sure each letter is specific to the program you are sending it to. Unlike Letters of Interest, Letters of Intent are intended to be sent after an interview, informing a program of your intent to rank them highly.
Letters of intent are not legally binding, and dont extend full legal protection to contractual parties. However, if not stated clearly, they can become legally binding, might not always be desirableespecially if the agreement is still pending approval by both parties.
Selecting a Theme Choose a central idea that ties together several of your experiences. For example, if you volunteered at Ronald McDonald House and did research on pediatric cancer, an overall theme might be your interest in the scientific and humanistic sides of working with child patients.
A letter of intent is generally not binding since its basically a description of the deal process. It is, in effect, an agreement to agree. Thus, either party can cancel the letter at any time.
The main difference between a letter of interest and letter of intent is the nature of commitment. In short, a letter of intent demonstrates a higher degree of commitment compared to a letter of interest.
