The verbatim package reimplements the LaTeX verbatim and verbatim* environments. The package also provides a comment environment (that skips everything between \begin{comment} and \end{comment}), and a command \verbatiminput for typesetting the contents of a file, verbatim.
See also Select (Start) (Settings). In Windows Settings, select Devices. In the left navigation pane, select Typing. Under Hardware keyboard, turn on Show text suggestions as I type. Under Typing, turn on Show text suggestions as I type on the software keyboard.
To typeset inline verbatim-like material, its best to use the macros \verb and \Verb ; the latter is provided by the fancyvrb package. If that package is loaded and the instruction \VerbatimFootnotes is executed, one can even have \Verb instructions in footnotes. (One cant do this with \verb .)
Verbatim-like text can also be used in a paragraph by means of the \verb command. The command \verb|C:\Windows\system32| prints the text inside the delimiters | in verbatim format. Any character, except letters and * , can be used as delimiter. For instance \verb+\ldots+ uses + as delimiter.
That is, if you put the command \begin{verbatim} at the beginning of some text and \end{verbatim} at the end, then LATEX will reproduce the text in the output, in typewriter style, exactly as it is typed in the input. Spaces and ends-of-line are copied to the output as well as other special characters.
The verbatim environment is a paragraph-making environment that gets LaTeX to print exactly what you type in. It turns LaTeX into a typewriter with carriage returns and blanks having the same effect that they would on a typewriter. The output looks exactly as it looks in the input file.
