Network Access Control List Meaning. A network access control list (ACL) is made up of rules that either allow access to a computer environment or deny it. In a way, an ACL is like a guest list at an exclusive club. Only those on the list are allowed in the doors.
ACLs are executed based on the order specified in the system. This order includes the Application field, Table field, and Order field in the ACL record.
The ACL is executed in the below order: The condition must evaluate to true. The script must evaluate to true or return an answer variable with the value of true. The user must have one of the roles in the required roles list.
The precedence of the three types, from highest to lowest, is ACL Rule for Public, ACL Rule for User, and ACL Rule for Group. When applying ACL checks, if any higher-precedence rule type passes, the authorization is resolved and the process stops.
A standard ACL allows or denies traffic access based on the source IP address, while an extended access control list can filter packets with a higher degree of specification. It can determine the types of traffic it allows or blocks beyond just the IP address to include TCP, ICMP, and UDP, for example.
To add or remove access control list (ACL) entries from a file or directory, get the FileSecurity or DirectorySecurity object from the file or directory. Modify the object, and then apply it back to the file or directory.
Standard ACLS can be either named or numbered, with valid numbers in the range of 1-99 and 1300-1399. Standard ACLs use a bitwise mask to specify the portion of the source IP address to be matched. Extended ACLs permit or deny traffic based on source or destination IP address, or IP protocol.
Definition and Usage. The acl statement creates a named address match list. It gets its name from a primary use of address match lists: Access Control Lists (ACLs). Note that an address match lists name must be defined with acl before it can be used elsewhere; no forward references are allowed.
