a patent search is a great way to determine the patentability of your invention in a patent search we basically look at previous patents and patent applications and determine if anyone elses attempted to patent your invention unfortunately all patent searches have a big blind spot and that is that previously filed patent applications arent published until up to 18 months later therefore there is this 18-month blind spot where you cant see if someone has filed a patent application for your invention and this is especially a problem in technology areas that are moving very quickly because theres a lot of innovation thats gone on in the previous 18 months and we wont know if anyones filed a patent application for inventions in that area until much later when theyre published so theres really a blind spot that simply cant be addressed by a typical patent search
