The Blind Spot Information System with Trailer Tow is designed to aid you in detecting vehicles that may have entered the detection area zone (A). The detection area is on both sides of your vehicle and trailer, extending rearward from the exterior mirrors to the end of your trailer.
Blind spots can occur when the A-pillar (also known as the windshield pillar), side-view mirrors or interior rear-view mirror block your view of the road. Cargo, headrests and additional pillars in the rear of the vehicle can also create blind spots.
The basic variant of blind spot detection can be implemented using ultrasonic sensors or corner radar sensors.

With nearly 10% of vehicle accidents being lane-changing crashes, BSM can be a useful tool when utilized. In a 2017 article, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) reported that blind-spot monitoring reduces lane-changing accidents by 14%. Moreover, it reduces injuries from lane-changing crashes by 23%.
These blind spot areas include: directly in front, directly behind and along each sideespecially on the right side. If you cannot see the truck drivers reflection in his or her side mirror, you are in the truck drivers blind spot and they cannot see you.
Typically, blind-spot systems only work at speeds above 20 to 35-ish mph. This prevents false positives on city streets but tends to only make the tech useful at highway speeds.
Blind-spot monitoring uses a set of sensors mounted on the side mirrors or rear bumper to detect vehicles in the adjacent lanes. If the sensors detect something, theyll alert you via an audible and/or visual warning. Some vehicles even use a camera as the main part of the system or to complement the sensors.
Before changing lanes, look into your rearview mirror for nearby vehicles and over your shoulder to check for blind spots (see the yellow area in the image above). The shaded areas are your blind spots.
The system uses ultrasonic or radar sensors on the side and rear of the car. Like a bat in nature, ultrasonic sensors use soundwaves to detect objects in their surroundings. These sensors monitor nearby lanes and determine when other vehicles approach or enter your blind spot.
