Word allows you fine-tune the line and paragraph spacing in your documents. In this example, Id like to start by changing the line spacing, which is the space between each line of text. Start by selecting some text, and then in the Paragraph group, click the Line and Paragraph Spacing command. By default, the line spacing is 1.08, so if you change it to 1.0, the lines will be a little closer together, and if you choose 2.0 theyll be double-spaced. But if you want to have more precise control, click Line Spacing Options. There are two things that you can change: the line-spacing mode and the amount. When the mode is set to Multiple, you can type in the number of lines of spacing you want. The default is 1.08, so we might change it to something like 1.25 to spread the lines out a little bit. If youre more accustomed to measuring in points, like with font sizes, you can select Exactly. Usually, youll want the spacing to be a little bit larger than the font size. Since I have 12-point

Add a gutter margin for bound documents On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Setup group, click Margins. Click Custom Margins. In the Gutter box, enter a width for the gutter margin. In the Gutter position box, click Left or Top.
Select Ctrl + Shift + Space on your keyboard to insert the nonbreaking space.
Word provides two ways to provide for binding, both found on the Margins tab of the Page Setup dialog: the Gutter setting in the Margins area and the Mirror margins setting in the Multiple pages dropdown. They can be used in concert but in some situations are mutually exclusive.
To do this, hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys as you press the Spacebar. Word will then not break the line at that point. An alternative way of inserting a non-breaking space is to follow these steps: Display the Insert tab of the ribbon.
Create a booklet or book Go to Layout and select the Page Setup dialog launch icon at the bottom-right corner. On the Margins tab, change the setting for Multiple pages to Book fold. Select and increase the value of Gutter to reserve space on the inside fold for binding. Go to the Paper tab and select the Paper size.

To insert a nonbreaking space between two words or characters using a keyboard shortcut: Position the cursor between the two words or characters you want to keep together (there should be no space between these characters). Press Ctrl + Shift + Spacebar. Word inserts a nonbreaking space.
Margins are very important when it comes to binding. No margins = Text/images cut off in the binding process. For single sided printing we recommend a margin of 3cm on the left side and 2.5cms on the other three sides. For double sided printing we recommend a margin of 2.5cms on all four sides.
