If Cmd + Space doesnt work, that hotkey may be assigned to another feature on your Mac. First, verify that its not in use for Spotlight by opening Spotlights System Preferences and disabling the menu keyboard shortcut under Keyboard Shortcuts Spotlight.
On the bottom right of the Keyboard settings should be a button labeled Modifier Keys. It is here where you can remap and modify what each key to the left of the spacebar can do, like changing the Globe key to trigger the Command action instead.
To reassign a key Select the Start button, and then select Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center. From the displayed list of key names, select the key that you want to reassign. In the command list of the key that you want to reassign, select a command.
Instead, the Macintosh equivalent of the Windows Ctrl key is the ⌘ key. Its right next to the space bar. Its pronounced command, although novices can often be heard calling it the pretzel key, Apple key, or clover key.
If that is the case, disabling Full Keyboard Access will fix the spacebar functionality. To disable the feature, open macOS System Preferences Accessibility Keyboard and uncheck Enable Full Keyboard Access.
Option 2: Using Compressed Air Completely turn off your MacBook. In the top left corner of the screen, click on the Apple symbol. Position your MacBook vertically. Spray the keys with compressed air. Rotate the MacBook to the right and repeat step 3. Rotate the MacBook to the left and repeat step 3. Test your keys.
Enter a directory - hold Ctrl - down arrow twice - press Space - down arrow twice - press Space .
Go to System Preferences Keyboard Shortcuts. Choose an item from the left pane, and then select the current key shortcut. Type the new command you want to use.
You can change the action that modifier keys, such as Control or Option, perform when you press them. On your Mac, choose Apple menu System Settings, then click Keyboard in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.) Click Keyboard Shortcuts on the right, then select Modifier Keys in the list on the left.
ControlCommandSpace bar: Show the Character Viewer, from which you can choose emoji and other symbols. Control-Command-F: Use the app in full screen, if supported by the app. Space bar: Use Quick Look to preview the selected item.
