With the OpenShift command-line interface (CLI), the oc command, you can create applications and manage OpenShift Container Platform projects from a terminal.
Secrets separate the sensitive information for the application source code and store it in the cluster at the namespace level. The secrets are base64 encoded and can be decoded easily using the same base64 command. They provide very basic security for sensitive data.
The Secret object type provides a mechanism to hold sensitive information such as passwords, OpenShift Container Platform client configuration files, dockercfg files, private source repository credentials, and so on. Secrets decouple sensitive content from the pods.
ConfigMaps are typically used for non-sensitive configuration data, while Secrets are used for storing sensitive information. ConfigMaps stores data as key-value pairs, whereas Secrets stores data as base64-encoded data, thereby ensuring an additional layer of security.
Option 1: Log in by using the OpenShift command line, oc login , with the admin user: Log in with user name and password by running the following command: oc login -u -p Paste the copied login command to your command line and press Enter.
Duplicating the Secret to Different Namespaces The first method for sharing the secret among different namespaces is by simply creating the same secret on different namespaces. In other words, we run the kubectl apply command on our Secret manifest file for all the namespaces where we want the Secret to be available.
Kubernetes Secrets are, by default, stored unencrypted in the API servers underlying data store (etcd). Anyone with API access can retrieve or modify a Secret, and so can anyone with access to etcd.
The oc get secrets command can be used the list the secrets in the currently selected project / namespace. The -A or --all-namespaces flag can be used to list the secrets in every project / namespace. The -n or --namespace flag can be used to list the secrets in a certain project / namespace.
