To bind your book with tape, first staple the pages along the crease, and then reinforce the staples with a strip of linen tape or cotton tape. For a thick book, use several layers of tape. If you want to bind with ribbon, punch holes every 14 inch (0.64 cm) along the edge of the pages.
start with 2 or more folios gathered into 1 signature. next, thread the string through the bottom hole, skipping the center hole. thread the string back through the center hole and tighten up that stitch. tie the string around the string running along the spine, and cut off the excess.
Here are a few ways you can do so: Use a comb binding machine. Comb binding is popular for a reason it is inexpensive and easy. Use screw posts. If you dont want to get a binding machine, screw posts are a great second option. Use a thermal binding machine. Use three-ring binders.
Hold the book securely as you thread your needle up through from the bottom, up through one of the centre holes. Hold on to the end of the thread. Sew around the spine, and back through the same hole again from the bottom, out and down through the other centre hole. Pull the thread tight.
Screw posts. Screw posts can bind books that are up to 5 thick and if you use an extender, you can bind even more pages. Best of all, these supplies are easy to use and dont really require any special equipment except a hole punch. (Or a paper drill if you need to punch holes in large stacks of paper.)
Id probably go with the sewing thread as its likely a strong cotton and less likely to snap if youre having tension issues but Ive used embroidery floss before and it was also fine.
How can I bind a book at home? To bind a book at home, gather your pages, align them evenly, apply glue along the spine, and secure them tightly with clamps. Once dry, cover the spine with fabric or paper for a finished look.
