In this section I will look at DNS records. DNS records contain the data that will be returned to the client when the clients requests information from the server about hosts or resources on the network. In this video I will look a different DNS records. There are a lot of different DNS records out there, but I will look at only the most common ones. Next I will look at dynamic DNS. Dynamic DNS allows clients to adjust their own DNS records as they change. This can be a real time saver. Lastly I will perform a demonstration of how to create DNS records and how to use dynamic DNS. DNS is a key part of active directory, so it is beneficial to understand how DNS records work. Once you understand how DNS records work you will have a better understanding how active directory finds resources on the network helping you to trouble shoot active directory problems on your network. With D N S, there a number of different records types. This is by no means a complete list, but does cover the more

BIND is a nameserver service responsible for performing domain-name-to-IP conversion on Linux-based DNS servers. The BIND package provides the named service. It reads the configuration from the /etc/named and /etc/named. conf files.
Adding the dot to the end of the domain name makes it an absolute fully-qualified domain name instead of just a regular fully-qualified domain name, and most browsers treat absolute domain names as being a different domain from the equivalent regular domain name (Im not sure why they do this though).
This was documented in the DNS specification, RFC 1034, way back in 1987: Since a complete domain name ends with the root label, this leads to a printed form which ends in a dot. We use this property to distinguish between: - a character string which represents a complete domain name (often called absolute).
The BIND record function establishes addressability to the areas in variable storage that hold or will hold record data.
The BIND nameserver named server uses the /etc/named. conf file for configuration. All zone files are placed in the /var/named/ directory.
What is BIND? Berkeley Internet Name Domain (BIND) is the most popular Domain Name System (DNS) server in use today. It was developed in the 1980s at the University of Berkley and is currently in version 9. BIND is an open source system free to download and use, offered under the Mozilla Public License.
The BIND file format is the industry preferred zone file format and has been widely adopted by DNS server software. The format is defined in RFC 1035.
BIND (Berkeley Internet Name Domain) is a software collection of tools including the worlds most widely used DNS (Domain Name System) server software. This feature-full implementation of DNS service and tools aims to be 100% standards-compliant and is; intended to serve as a reference architecture for DNS software.
