Hardback wire documents are bound with a metal wire and covers are printed on thick board. The nature of the style means it can lay flat and is ideal for writing in.
The Photo Album Binding Method is an intermediate-to-advanced level set of processes or steps by which a book block is created using tabbed dividers. These tabs allow the book to expand as photos are added without damaging the spine.
Soft binding is a little similar to hard binding (see above) except the covers are not as thick and therefore not as rigid and the internal pages are thermally glued in. However the finished book is still usually able to stand unaided on a book shelf.
The content pages of a paperback printed book are printed separately to the cover and are folded into sections which, in the case of a thread-sewn paperback, are sewn and collated into a book block. For unsewn bindings such as perfect or PUR binding the back of the sections are milled off and are not sewn.
Perfect binding, often referred to as soft cover novel binding, is a method of binding in which the interior pages of a book are clamped and glued at the spine before wrapping it in a soft cover.
In a regular paperback, the spine is glued directly to the pages. When the book is opened, the spine bends in an arch, and its very difficult to make the book lie flat. In a perfect-bound book, the paperback-like cover and spine are attached to the left and right edges of the stack of signatures, not to the back.
Similar to case binding, perfect binding (also known as soft cover binding) covers are made from heavyweight cardstock paper that is laminated or coated to protect the book. It is generally of a lower quality than case binding, and the pages are glued together.
