No, they are essentially the same file type; the only difference is that one acronym (TIF) is short for the other acronym (TIFF). So regardless of which acronym you use, both refer to the same image format. The two acronyms are used interchangeably, so theres no need to worry about which one youre using.
Compression. Both PNG and TIFF files benefit from lossless compression, meaning that no matter how often you save, open, or resize them, theyll maintain their quality.
Because of their large size, TIFF files usually arent used for everyday marketing content. While a TIFF file might be the original creative file, it will likely be converted to another format to be used in slide decks, websites, and other marketing materials. Avoid TIFF files for: Web graphics.
Which file is best for photography JPEG or TIFF? A TIFF will enable you to store richer, more detailed images. Its good practice to save your original (or source) photos as TIFF files. JPEGs, meanwhile, might be a better choice for exporting your finished edits because theyre easier to share and print.
TIFF or Tagged Image File Format are lossless images files meaning that they do not need to compress or lose any image quality or information (although there are options for compression), allowing for very high-quality images but also larger file sizes.
Not as good a choice for editing: JPEG files use lossy compression. If you plan to edit a photo and then re-save it you will lose some quality each time. Better if you plan to edit: Because TIFF files dont use compression they do not degrade in quality each time the photo is edited.
By default all recognized fields in the TIFF image file directory (IFD) are loaded into the native image metadata object. Which fields are loaded may be controlled by setting which TIFF tags the reader is allowed to recognize, whether to read fields with unrecognized tags, and whether to ignore all metadata.
