in this lecture were going to be talking about named scopes and bindings and a good source of reference material for this lecture is both the Scott Tex chapter 3 and also my notes with named scopes and bindings and were going to start out with a few definitions and were going to start with what is a name and a name is an identifier that allows us to refer to variables constants functions types operations and so on so a name could be a type like int in C or Java it could be a variable name like miles-per-gallon it could be a function like compute mars driven then a binding is simply an association of a name with an object and that could be a allocation of an actual integer to some variable or it could be the allocation of a heap-allocated object to a pointer variable i could be the association of a label and a language with some memory address so you could use a go-to statement obviously a bad thing but thats another example of a binding and then scope is the lifetime of a binding

Active Directory supports a technique called serverless binding that allows you to connect to any available domain controller in the local AD site. This best practices technique allows you to provide better fault tolerance by connecting to a range of servers while reducing the load on a particular server.
The Base DN is where the PAN will start searching in the directory structure. The Bind DN is the username that will be used to do the searching and request the authentication.
The Bind password is used when the object authentication configuration has expired. This topic provides troubleshooting references and steps for resolving system errors when you are using the Bind password and the object authentication configuration has expired.
Anonymous access to the Active Directory is not allowed, so a bind account is needed. It is simply an account for Active Directory that has read ability on the attribute to which the user will authenticate. An example might be cn=administrator,cn=Users,dc=domain,dc=com. The password should be updated for this entry.
The user bind DN is the user name and password provided when a user logs in. By default, the user bind DN is used for authentication and password change operations.
Binding is the step where the LDAP server authenticates the client and, if the client is successfully authenticated, allows the client access to the LDAP server based on that clients privileges.
In LDAP, authentication is supplied in the bind operation. LDAP v3 supports three types of authentication: anonymous, simple and SASL authentication. A client that sends a LDAP request without doing a bind is treated as an anonymous client.
In Active Directory Domain Services, the act of associating a programmatic object with a specific Active Directory Domain Services object is known as binding.
Description. LDAP user distinguished name (DN) that is used when binding (signing on) to the LDAP server. The LDAPdn value is created, based on the server name that was specified with the n servername option and the local host of the computer.
While simple LDAP binds allow the credentials of privileged accounts, such as domain administrators, to traverse the network in cleartext, unsigned SASL LDAP binds allow any person with malicious intent to capture packets between the client and the DC, change the packets, and then forward them.
