A binding protein is any protein that acts as an agent to bind two or more molecules together. Examples include: DNA-binding protein. Single-strand binding protein.
-Fold Motif Another DNA-binding motif found among prokaryotic regulatory proteins is the -fold. A two-stranded antiparallel sheet in each subunit of a protein dimer recognizes a major groove of DNA, in a sequence-specific way, within a half symmetry of the corresponding DNA site. Each site is about 8 bp long.
e.g. Phenylbutazone Sulfonamide. Only the unbound drug is capable of being eliminated. Protein binding prevent the entry of drug to the metabolizing organ (liver ) to glomerulus filtration. e.g. Tetracycline is eliminated mainly by glomerular filtration.
Transcription factor binding motifs (TFBMs) are genomic sequences that specifically bind to transcription factors. The consensus sequence of a TFBM is variable, and there are a number of possible bases at certain positions in the motif, whereas other positions have a fixed base.
Binding Proteins. As indicated by their names, these proteins are involved with the binding of various substances. These can be for a variety of reasons from transporting molecules to signal transduction as seen in a receptor.
Based on the type of DNA damage repairs, DNA-binding proteins are classified into these groups: DNA mismatch repair, nucleotide excision repair, base excision repair, homologous recombination repair, and non-homologous end joining. Examples include DNA glycosylase, DNA polymerase I, and ligase.
The term protein binding normally refers to the reversible association of a drug with the proteins of the plasma compartment of blood, and this binding is due to electrostatic and hydrophobic forces between drug and protein. From: Comprehensive Medicinal Chemistry II, 2007.
