The Coilmaster Jr. TS is binding 25mm 3:1 books, or three holes per inch. It is preferable to punch thick books with this pitch because it allows you to punch bigger holes. Here you can see that the machine will bind books with a 3:1 pitch with a slim margin or a wide margin. The Coilmaster is also the only automatic coil binder that can bind 5:1 books or five holes per inch, even with a wide margin. You would think that 4:1 means four holes per inch. Thatamp;#39;s not always the case. Most 4:1 dies are .248 or .2475 pitch rather .250 or a true 4:1. This allows for punching a hole pattern meant for 8.5 X 11 or A4. You can fit 44 holes on these size books without pulling pins. But what if your book isnamp;#39;t exactly 11amp;quot; or A4? You will end up punching half a hole. The best solution is to pull the punching pins at the head and foot of the book, and center the sheet to make an attractive margin. Thanks to the spreading device on The Coilmaster Jr. TS, you can pull pins and c

Select Layout Margins. Select Custom Margins. In Margins, use the Up and Down arrows to enter the values you want. Select OK when done.
As a rule of thumb, we recommend that you use a 15mm margin on all edges except for the binding edge. The biding edge will require a slightly wider margin to leave space for the binding when printing your book. This prevents images and text from being lost in the fold when you open the book.
A binding margin is the vertical space without any text, on each page, used for stitching, drilling or whatever method is used to hold the pages together. The binding margin is measured in characters or braille cells on an embosser, or in inches or millimeters on a printer.
Perfect Bound Sizes Regardless of book size, the cover needs to be at least 8.5 face-to-face (flat) to feed into the binder. The minimum width is 2.75 spine to face after trimming. Minimum height is 4.25 head to foot, but books can be bound in a 2up format and then trimmed apart.
Margins are very important when it comes to binding. No margins = Text/images cut off in the binding process. For single-sided printing, we recommend a margin of 3cm on the left side and 2.5 cm on the other three sides. For double-sided printing, we recommend a margin of 2.5 cm on all four sides.
Since perfect bound books are glued at the spine, it makes it harder to see or read content near the binding side (see the image below). To help avoid this, we recommend you have a 3/8 (0.375) margin on the binding side of all pages, including inside cover pages.
Same Day Printing advises you to use a 12mm margin on the outer edges (bottom, top, and outside edge) of your page. An 18mm margin should be used on the inside/ binding edge of the page.
