Margins are very important when it comes to binding. No margins = Text/images cut off in the binding process. For single-sided printing, we recommend a margin of 3cm on the left side and 2.5 cm on the other three sides. For double-sided printing, we recommend a margin of 2.5 cm on all four sides.
A binding margin is the vertical space without any text, on each page, used for stitching, drilling or whatever method is used to hold the pages together. The binding margin is measured in characters or braille cells on an embosser, or in inches or millimeters on a printer.
Books look best with generous margins. For SRA5 and A5 books we recommend 20mm margin on the top and both sides with 25mm on the bottom to accommodate the page number.
8. What is the margin size of A5 size? The margin size of an A5 size paper is typically 5mm (millimetres) on all sides. This means that the total margin size for an A5 size paper is 20mm (millimetres).
Margins. Same Day Printing advises you to use a 12mm margin on the outer edges (bottom, top, and outside edge) of your page. An 18mm margin should be used on the inside/ binding edge of the page. TIP: If you are using InDesign, you can set margins under the Layout/Margins menu.

If you are using Microsoft Words, please go to page layout and set the page margins to at least 0.75 (19mm) and 1 (25.4mm) for A5 and A4 respectively - top, bottom, left and right of the page. You can use any size but please ensure that all pages and margins are of the same sizes.
