hey whatamp;#39;s up youtubers itamp;#39;s dan ski and in this tutorial weamp;#39;re going to be taking a look at guides and margins in docHub InDesign so Iamp;#39;ve got my new document here Iamp;#39;m going to start by creating some guides if you canamp;#39;t see your rulers along the top and the left hand side just go up to view down to about here and it should say show rulers and thereamp;#39;s a shortcut key so select that and then simply left click anywhere within the ruler and you can drag a guide out now youamp;#39;ll see here that the actual document itself has changed slightly as you create guides these are only visible in whatamp;#39;s called normal mode so this is normal mode if I switch back over here to preview mode it shows my document in its final size so anything outside in the gray will not appear in the final document if I export PDF or if I send it to print so if I go back into normal mode here and I draw a quick circle just - thatamp;#39;s a hexagon letam

Margins are very important when it comes to binding. No margins = Text/images cut off in the binding process. For single-sided printing, we recommend a margin of 3cm on the left side and 2.5 cm on the other three sides. For double-sided printing, we recommend a margin of 2.5 cm on all four sides.
Longer reports (three or more pages) are generally bound at the left margin. The binding takes about 0.5 of space. To accommodate the binding, the left margin is increased to 1.5 on all pages.
Margins. Same Day Printing advises you to use a 12mm margin on the outer edges (bottom, top, and outside edge) of your page. An 18mm margin should be used on the inside/ binding edge of the page.
A Word about Standard Page Margins However, most printed books fall somewhere between 5.5 x 8.5 and 8.5 x 11. These books will generally have margins in the . 5 to 1 range, with the margins becoming increasingly larger as the book dimensions increase.
For bound books 6x 9 or smaller, use 0.5 margins on the top, outside and bottom of books, and a 0.75 inside margin. For 8.5x11 documents (bound or unbound), use 1-inch margins. Adjust margins, font size, and columns to produce 65-70 characters per line (including spaces).
The binding margin should be at least 40mm with 20mm on all other sides. If you print on both sides of the paper, you will need to mirror the margins, so that the wider margin is always on the bound edge.
Sheets: Generally speaking, the standard page count for perfect bound books is between 40-400 pages, and books must be a minimum of 1/8 thick to be glued successfully. The thickness of your paper will provide some wiggle room here, with thicker stock helping to make shorter books meet the necessary criteria.
Gutter margin is the margin that is added to the binding side of the page when printing.
