The legend can either be displayed in a column or row layout controlled with the direction property. It can also be moved with the position: { vertical, horizontal } property which defines how the legend aligns within the SVG. vertical can be top , middle , or bottom .
By default, when a Legend item is clicked, the visibility of the series associated with that item will be toggled. This allows the users to control which series are displayed in the chart by clicking on Legend items. Additionally, when a Legend item is double clicked, the chart will show that series only.
Legend is the UI element mapping symbols and colors to the series label.
Add a chart legend Click the chart. Click Chart Elements. next to the table. Select the Legend check box. The chart now has a visible legend.
On the Design tab, in the Data group, click Select Data. In the Select Data Source dialog box, in the Legend Entries (Series) box, select the legend entry that you want to change. Click Edit. Tip: To add a new legend entry, click Add, or to remove a legend entry, click Remove.
A legend displays the meaning of the symbols, colors and styles used to represent geographic data on the map. Legends consist of examples of the symbols on the map with labels containing explanatory text. Legends have patches that show examples of the map symbols.
Legends should be placed below or to the right to a data visualization, depending on the type of data being labeled and the available space surrounding the data visualization. When a large set of values exist ensure the legend is placed on the right of the chart.
Click the chart, and then click the Chart Design tab. Click Add Chart Element Legend. To change the position of the legend, choose Right, Top, Left, or Bottom. To change the format of the legend, click More Legend Options, and then make the format changes that you want.
