Changing the canned text is now one of the easiest customisations a user can do to LaTeX. The canned text macros are all of the form \name , and changing them is simplicity itself. Put: \renewcommand{\name}{Res minor} in the preamble of your document, and the job is done.
Latex is the soft white substance found beneath the bark of a mature rubber tree. You may be surprised to think of latex as a natural material, given the strength and man-made feel of so many of its final applications, like tires, rubber gloves, and tennis shoes.
LaTeX is actually a typesetting system developed by Leslie Lamport, based on Donald Knuths TeX system. The La in LaTeX comes from Lamports name, and TeX is derived from Knuths TeX system. In TeX, the X is pronounced as k (like the Greek letter chi).
Well, LaTeX is a child of TeX. Knuth himself says TeX is pronounced tech, where the ch sounds the same as from the the word Bach (the composer). He also says tech (as in technology) is fine, but tecks is utterly wrong. So, LaTeX is pronounced Lay-tech with the ch from Bach.
LaTeX was originally written in the early 1980s by Leslie Lamport at SRI International. The current version is LaTeX2e, first released in 1994 but incrementally updated starting in 2015. This update policy replaced earlier plans for a separate release of LaTeX3, which had been in development since 1989.
