To create a header or footer: Double-click anywhere on the top or bottom margin of your document. The header or footer will open, and a Design tab will appear on the right side of the Ribbon. Type the desired information into the header or footer. When youre finished, click Close Header and Footer.
To promote the first row to column headers, select Home Use First Row As Headers. To demote column headers to the first row, select Home, select the arrow next to Use First Row As Headers, and then select Use Headers as First Row.
On the View menu, click the Insert tab and click Header. Look toward the bottom of the list that appears and click Edit header. Click the box that says Different first page.
Type the text you want into a Word document. Select a sentence that you want to add a header to. Select Home Styles (or press Alt+H, then L), and then select the heading you want, such as the Heading 1 button.
Right-click Heading 1 in the Styles group of the Home tab of the ribbon, then select Modify from the context menu. Specify the desired formatting. If you want to apply this to the current document only, click OK.
This means your Heading Style definition is broken. Open the Style dialog, select Heading 1, choose Modify Then, modify the Paragraph settings in the Style dialog. You are looking for the Level attribute; this guides the appearance in the navigation menu.
Number your headings Open your document that uses built-in heading styles, and select the first Heading 1. On the Home tab, in the Paragraph group, choose Multilevel List. Under List Library, choose the numbering style you would like to use in your document.
Double-click the header or footer area (near the top or bottom of the page) to open the Header Footer tab. Check Different First Page to see if its selected. If not: Select Different First Page.
