To Bind an Xref to the Current Drawing Click Insert tab Reference panel Dialog box launcher. Find. In the External References palette, select the reference name that you want to bind. Right-click, and click Bind. In the Bind Xrefs dialog box, select one of the following options: Click OK to close each dialog box.
Binding an xref to a drawing makes the xref a permanent part of the drawing and no longer an externally referenced file. You can bind the entire database of the xref drawing, including all its xref-dependent named objects (blocks, dimension styles, layers, linetypes, and text styles), by using the XREF Bind option.
To combine multiple drawings in AutoCAD, use the command XREF/XATTACH to insert a reference to the original drawing or use INSERT command to work on the original data without a reference. Note: Both solutions apply only to objects in the Model Space. They do not apply to objects in Paper Space or layouts.
The two methods of binding xrefs to the current drawing are Bind and Insert. Bind alters the definition table names of an xref when it is inserted. Insert does not alter the definition table names of an xref when it is inserted. To bind a nested xref, you must also select the parent xref.
Known causes include are listed below: XREF has been edited in 3rd party software. File corruption. Proxy elements. Problem with the user profile in Windows.
Solution: Right-Click on the image file and select Open with Select Paint, or any other image editing program. Press CTRL+A to select all. Press CTRL+C to copy. In AutoCAD enter the PASTESPEC command. Select the options Paste and Picture (Metafile) in the Paste Special box. Click OK. Place the image in the drawing.
