Bind converts the objects in the xref into a block reference. Named object definitions are added to the current drawing with a prefix of blockname $n$, where n is a number starting at 0. Insert also converts the objects in the xref into a block reference.
On the command line in AutoCAD, type VISRETAIN and set the value to 1. Turn on and thaw all xref layers, and enable them to be plotted. Detach and reattach the xref. If this does not work, change the name of the xref and then try to attach it again.
Binding an xref to a drawing makes the xref a permanent part of the drawing and no longer an externally referenced file. You can bind the entire database of the xref drawing, including all its xref-dependent named objects (blocks, dimension styles, layers, linetypes, and text styles), by using the XREF Bind option.
In the host drawing, on the command line in AutoCAD, type VISRETAIN and set it to 1. Verify that drawing geometry in the xref is not placed on layer 0. On the command line in AutoCAD, type XREFOVERRIDE and set it to 1. Reload the xref.
Check the entry in the Status column for the missing Xref. If the file is showing up as Not Found, it might be because: You have a bad connection to the location where that Xref is stored, or. The Xref path is incorrect.
To Bind an Xref to the Current Drawing Click Insert tab Reference panel Dialog box launcher. Find. In the External References palette, select the reference name that you want to bind. Right-click, and click Bind. In the Bind Xrefs dialog box, select one of the following options: Click OK to close each dialog box.
Known causes include are listed below: XREF is unloaded, orphaned, or is otherwise missing. XREF is part of a circular reference. XREF is attached more than once. XREF has been edited in 3rd party software.
