To Bind an Xref to the Current Drawing Click Insert tab Reference panel Dialog box launcher. Find. In the External References palette, select the reference name that you want to bind. Right-click, and click Bind. In the Bind Xrefs dialog box, select one of the following options: Click OK to close each dialog box.
Known causes include are listed below: XREF is unloaded, orphaned, or is otherwise missing. XREF is part of a circular reference. XREF is attached more than once. XREF has been edited in 3rd party software.
Bind Xrefs: Bind converts the objects in the xref into a block reference. Named object definitions are added to the current drawing with a prefix of blockname $n$, where n is a number starting at 0. Insert Xrefs: Insert also converts the objects in the xref into a block reference.
In AutoCAD, xref is a shortened term for external references. As the name indicates, the xref feature allows you to attach external references to your drawing. External references can be in the format of other drawings, PDFs, images, point cloud data, and so on.
To Bind an Xref to the Current Drawing Click Window menu Reference Manager. In the Reference Manager, select the DWG reference. Right-click the selected DWG reference and select Bind from the shortcut menu. The objects in the xref are converted into a block reference.
External reference files tend to cover a larger area containing portions of a drawing or element types and are dynamically linked to their original source drawing. Blocks in contrast tend to be individual repeatable components that are embedded within that drawing.
The two methods of binding xrefs to the current drawing are Bind and Insert. Bind alters the definition table names of an xref when it is inserted. Insert does not alter the definition table names of an xref when it is inserted. To bind a nested xref, you must also select the parent xref.
Binding an xref to a drawing makes the xref a permanent part of the drawing and no longer an externally referenced file. You can bind the entire database of the xref drawing, including all its xref-dependent named objects (blocks, dimension styles, layers, linetypes, and text styles), by using the XREF Bind option.
