okay so hereamp;#39;s what I use for a binder after Top surgery so Iamp;#39;ve been doing this for years Iamp;#39;ve been through many many different iterations of binders and really the best type of binder in my opinion you can have after Top surgery is when you take off soon and so with the drain free Technique we only put this on for about 48 hours or often times patients uh will wear it until the com back to see us it just goes right the top like that and it holds a little bit of compression with the drain free technique the binder isnamp;#39;t as important because the stitches on the inside are doing the job of the binder basically but this is what we usually start with and weamp;#39;ll get rid of it at the first post out visit

A new, safer alternative to chest binding is the use of a compression top. Compression tops are built from gentler fabrics than most other binders on the market right now. Compression tops are designed to compress the chest in a gentler fashion to help improve overall comfort, safety, and movement capabilities.
Symptoms. Restrict breathing. Irritate your skin. Break skin around the edges of the binder. Cause overheating. Bruise or fracture your ribs.
The trick is, if you wear two sports bras, and turn the outer one inside out, it does a fairly good job of binding, and ive used it quite often.
If you only have compression shorts available, you can cut turn them into a shirt by cutting a hole in the crotch thats large enough for your head. You can turn one old shirt into a binder as well. To do this, cut the sleeves off, then cut the seams on both sides of the shirt. you now have two binders.
In extreme cases, breast tissue can become permanently damaged, she says. Strong, prolonged pressure around the chest and back can also cause changes to normal spine alignment, which may result in chronic pain.
Rib binders apply pressure from all sides of the chest, which can actually push the flared ribs further forward. Similarly, chest braces intended for treating pectus carinatum can also worsen rib flare.
As an alternative to a dedicated binder, a good sports bra with high compression can serve as a binder. Sports bras wont provide as much compression as a binder but can be a stepping stone to binding later.
The most popular safe methods are to use commercial binders, sports bras, strategic layering, and bandages or elastic materials. If youre binding frequently, make sure to take breaks throughout the day and take days off, as binding continuously can cause negative side effects (2,4).
