Summary Add the hyperref package to your preamble. Links will show up in a colored box which will be invisible when you print it. Use \href{URL}{DESCRIPTION} to add a link with description. Use \url{URL} to add a link without a description.
A table of contents is produced with the \tableofcontents command. You put the command right where you want the table of contents to go; LaTeX does the rest for you. Entries are taken from the Sectioning commands. \tableofcontents produces a heading, but it does not automatically start a new page.

You can turn the lines in a Table of Contents into clickable links that direct to corresponding pages by adding \usepackage{hyperref} in the preamble of the document line.
Links to a web address or email can added to a LaTeX file using the \url command to display the actual link or \href to use a hidden link and show a word/sentence instead. There are two commands in the example that generate a link in the final document: \href{}{Something Linky}
Inputting and including files The standard tools to insert a LaTeX file into another are \input and \include . Use this command in the document body to insert the contents of another file named filename.
All that is needed is to put \tableofcontents wherever you want the TOC to appear (usually just after the title page and abstract). A table of contents is automatically generated from the chapter/section/subsection headings. You always need to run LATEX twice to get the most recent TOC.
