[ background music ] Got confused when you should put a comma before which? The rule is actually very simple, if you could remove the which-clause without changing the meaning of the sentence, then you should put a comma before which. For example: Everyone loved the party, which Jim spent a long time to prepare. Jims second novel, which he spent twenty years writing, just became a bestseller. Commas were needed here because the which clause is nonrestrictive, meaning we can remove it without changing the meaning of the sentence. On the other hand if the clause is restrictive, the meaning of the sentence will change if we remove the which clause, then comma is not used. For example: Cars which dont have seat belts arent allowed for kids. Actually in this case the word that is more common than which to introduce the clause especially in American English, and unlike which, that is always used without a comma. Hope the video clears your confusion. thanks for watching.

A salutation usually has two components: a greeting or an adjective and the name or title of the person youre addressing. In the previous example, the salutation is composed of an adjective and a name, and theres no comma between the two. However, a comma should separate a direct greeting and a persons name.
Traditionally, it would be John Smith, Jr., and John Smith III. But beginning with the fourteenth edition of The Chicago Manual of Style (1993), the recommendation is to use no commas in either case (see paragraph 6.43 of the seventeenth edition): John Smith Jr.
Certain aspects of punctuation, such as those used in online chat and text messages, are stylistic and therefore the authors preference, or tachygraphic language forms. The correct way to punctuate MD (Medical Doctor) is M.D.
Rules for titles: If a title follows a name, separate the title from the rest of the sentence with a pair of commas. Example: Sandra Belinsky, MD, has been appointed to the board.
Put commas before titles. Examples: Jane Smith, Esq. Bob Jones, Ph. D. Tom Roe, M.D. In a sentence, put commas after titles.
Levin, MD, section chief, Oncology. Formal titles that appear before a persons name are in uppercase: Oncology Section Chief Stanley A. Levin, MD. Place a comma after the last credential after a persons name if including their title, department or other information: Stanley A. Levin, MD, section chief, Oncology.
The joining comma is only slightly different from the listing comma. It is used to join two complete sentences into a single sentence, and it must be followed by a suitable connecting word. The connecting words which can be used in this way are and, or, but, while and yet.
3. Add the apartment number: This detail should follow directly after the street address and can be separated with either a comma or linebreak. Use abbreviations like Apt., Unit, or #. For instance, 1234 Cherry Blossom Way, Apt.
