put simply a character set is the list of characters that your computer can understand but there is of course more to it than that all computer scientists and particularly programmers should understand the fundamental principles of character sets character encodings and unicode only then can they develop computer systems that will work with text in any language once upon a time the only characters that computer scientists cared much about were English letters digits nought to nine and a handful of punctuation symbols there was a system for representing these characters called ASCII the American Standard Code for information interchange ASCII could represent every character on the standard keyboard and a few unprintable control characters using a number between naught and 127 numbers naught to 31 represented unprintable control characters for example 7 Bell made your computer beep number 12 form feed caused your printer to eject the current sheet of paper and number 13 carriage return w

When data is encoded using ASCII, each character in the text is converted into its corresponding ASCII code, which is then stored as a sequence of binary digits (0s and 1s). This binary representation of the data can be transmitted from one computer to another, where it can be decoded back into the original text.
ASCII was originally developed for basic computers and printers. It uses a 7-bit code to represent characters. As more computers began to work with 8-bit groups of data, ASCII was written as 8 bits. The most docHub bit was sometimes used as a parity bit to perform a parity check (a form of error checking).
The ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) code consists of a 7-bit binary standard used to encode a set of 128 graphic and control symbols. Specifically, the ASCII table contains 95 graphic symbols.
delete control character The delete control character (also called DEL or rubout) is the last character in the ASCII repertoire, with the code 127. It is supposed to do nothing and was designed to erase incorrect characters on paper tape. It is denoted as ^? in caret notation and is U+007F in Unicode.
