A common question in many of the trainings I teach is: Should I mark the required fields in a form? If most fields in the form are required, should we still mark them? The short answer is: yes. Its best to have such a specification next to every single required field instead of just having a message such as, All fields are required, or All fields are required unless otherwise indicated at the top of the page or no message at all. Most of the time, people dont read small or even large font instructions at the top of a form. When they see a form, they often just jump into filling it. Even when people read such instructions, they might forget the instructions if they happen to be interrupted while they fill out the form. You might think that it will be more efficient to just mark the optional fields, since there are fewer. To make a field mandatory when used through Jiras user interface, click the Required link associated with that field. The text Required appears next to the fields name. Hidden fields cannot be set as required. To make a field optional, click the Optional link associated with that field.
Resolution is a special field in JIRA. It has an initial value of Unresolved, which means the field is NULL in the database. It is ALWAYS required when it appears on the screen. ONLY display it on the screen during a transition to the status where you want it set.
As a Jira administrator, you can manage or customize default issue statuses, resolutions, and priorities. Statuses represent the position of an issue in its workflow. A status can be mapped to one workflow step. Resolutions are the ways in which an issue can be closed.
Set Resolution to Done can be found in the Add post function option under Update Issue Field - its the default in the dropdown from there.
As a Jira administrator, you can manage or customize default issue statuses, resolutions, and priorities.Add, edit, and delete a resolution Select Issues. Under ISSUE ATTRIBUTES, select Resolutions. Fill in the form below the existing resolutions. You can edit the name and description at any time. Click Add.
The Resolution field is an important feature in Jira. It specifies the reason an issue is closed and removes the need of having multiple statuses with the purpose of stating why the issue is closed, thus capturing important data for your team while reducing the time you have to manage your workflow.
Select the field or fields that you want to make required for the transition. Click Add to complete the creation of a Validator. Verify the newly added Validator in the Transition screen. Publish the workflow to apply the changes.
You can set a field required by adding a field configuration and a field configuration scheme. Its the same as with mapping workflows to issue types. You create the field configuration where you mark your specific fields as required, and in the field configuration scheme, you map it to an issue type.
To get the Resolution IDs, go to Jira Settings / Admin Issues Resolutions, press Edit next to a resolution and the ID is the numeric code after ? id= in the title.
Resolution Field cant be made optional. DO NOT put the field on any screen except the one presented in the transition where it is to be set. Resolution is a special field in JIRA. It has an initial value of Unresolved, which means the field is NULL in the database.
