All page numbers should be the same font and size as your body text. Lower-case Roman numerals should be used for all preliminary pages, starting with ii on the page that appears after the title page. The title page is assumed to be the first page, but remains unnumbered.
Insert footnotes and endnotes Click where you want to reference to the footnote or endnote. On the References tab, select Insert Footnote or Insert Endnote. Enter what you want in the footnote or endnote. Return to your place in the document by double-clicking the number or symbol at the beginning of the note.
Start page numbering later in your document Go to Insert Header or Footer Edit Header or Edit Footer. Select Different First Page. In the header or footer area, you should see a label on the first page that says First Page Header. Select Close Header and Footer or press Esc to exit.
Page Numbers Click on the Insert tab at the top of the page. Click on the Page Number drop down menu. Select and click on the page number location and alignment that corresponds to your assignment requirements.
You can do that by going to the Home tab and selecting the alignment you want Right, Left or Center. Now go to Insert Page Number Current Position. Here you can select different accent bars.
Add page numbers to a header or footer Go to Insert Page Numbers. Select a position (left, center, or right, and header or footer). Select Include Page Count to show total number of pages too, such as page 7 of 9.
Go to page two and highlight the page number 2; at the top on the Design tab, click on Page Number Format Page Numbers 6. In the Page Number Format popup, select i, ii, iii, as the Number format. Click OK.
In the Page Setup dialog box, on the Header/Footer tab, click Custom Header or Custom Footer. To specify where in the header or footer you want the page number to appear, click inside the Left section, Center section, or Right section box. The placeholder [Page] appears in the selected section.
On the Insert tab, click the Page Number icon, and then click Page Number. Select a location, and then pick an alignment style. Word automatically numbers every page, except designated title pages. To change the numbering style, select Format and then choose the formatting you want to use.
Number all pages consecutively throughout the research paper in the upper right-hand corner, half an inch from the top and flush with the right margin.
