You can use the logarithmic scale Excel (Excel log scale) in the Format Axis dialogue box to scale your chart by a base of 10. What this does is it multiplies the vertical axis units by 10, so it starts at 1, 10, 100, 1000, 10000, 100000, 1000000 etc.
On the Insert tab, in the Illustrations group, click Chart. In the Insert Chart dialog box, click the arrows to scroll through the chart types. Select the type of chart that you want and then click OK. When you rest the mouse pointer over any chart type, a ScreenTip displays its name.
In the Format Axis box, select the Scale tab, and then check Logarithmic scale.
On the Design tab, in the Type group, click Change Chart Type. In the Change Chart Type dialog box, click a chart type that you want to use. The first box shows a list of chart type categories, and the second box shows the available chart types for each chart type category.
Select the Scale tab on the Format Axis window. Click the Logarithmic Scale check box near the bottom of the window. This changes the charts axis to a log scale.
Click the Insert tab, and then click the arrow next to Chart. Click a chart type, and then double-click the chart you want to add.
To put this chart on a semi log axis, right-click on the Y axis, and select Format Axis from the menu. Click on the Scale tab at the top of the window. Now check the Logarithmic Scale box at the bottom of the window, then click Ok.
